Reiki Mastership simply put, is not about mastering Reiki; it is about mastering the Self. Mastering oneself, does not mean that you will be “perfect” at what you do all of the time. It also does not necessarily mean that you are completely healed yourself or that you are fully “enlightened”. Although this is the goal for all of us, it is an ongoing process.

Someone who is a Reiki Master could be considered to be a specialized practitioner who enables others to make rapid transformations in their own lives. They have the ability to tap directly into the most powerful creative force known – the force of Love.

Just because you are termed “Reiki Master”, does not make you one. It is a life long search for bettering one's self on all levels, so that you may be of greater service to the planet. It means that you have a responsibility to make your choices wisely from this point, onward.

When you choose to become a Master, the Universe will listen and rearrange itself to meet that request. As a Master, you hold the vibrational frequencies of creation within you. This means that you have reached a far deeper level of understanding of how energy works, how to manifest your reality, as well as how to heal yourself and others.

With your decision to become a Reiki Master, you consciously choose this path. In time, Reiki Mastery, will lead to Spiritual Mastery, which is the ultimate goal. Even the beggar on the street has as much ability as the most awake entity. There may be many who seek your council, or perhaps yours is to work with Mother Nature, and so on. Remember that it is not you, but the father / mother within you. Allow your cup to always have enough room for guidance, understanding and experience.

At this stage of the game, you also have made a choice to be conscious of your own process at all times. What this means is that, even if you fall into old, stuck patterns, you are able to become aware that you are doing so, and hence, change the pattern consciously. The attitude of "victim consciousness" eventually will fall away completely as you now know that every thought, belief and action that you hold, is what creates your reality, whether you are aware of it consciously, or not.

You also now now have full responsibility to be continually working on yourself and living the attitudes of mastery in your everyday lives. Mastery also dictates that you are responsible for “walking your walk” to the best of your ability and living at the highest level of integrity. It also means that you recognize that you are fully responsible for how your reality manifests, and if there is anything in your life that you are unhappy with, only you have the power to change it.

Should you continue on to the Reiki Master / Teacher level, you are also required to be responsible to the well-being of your students, not only while they are in your class, but any time you interact with them. This means several things. You must follow a path of integrity, grace, love, respect, among other things. You are a mirror for your student. This means that, to the best of your ability, you must see them as a Divine Being and reflect their whole-ness and perfection at that moment. If you are reflecting an unclear mirror; in other words, not practicing what you teach, you are not honouring the master within yourself or your student, and your integrity and respect is lost.

Students will look up to their teachers and ultimately, they see themselves in you, so we must be able to “walk the walk”, and uphold the principles of Reiki and cultivate the qualities that constitute a true Master.  We also have the responsibility to teach them honor respect for the lineage, the proper use of Reiki and most of all, respect for their own and others healing processes.

Although becoming a Reiki Master and / or Teacher can be hard work, it is a very exciting process and we must remember to have fun with it. If it’s not an enjoyable process, then something is wrong. Learning to remember the Divine Spark that we all are, isn’t meant to be serious, all of the time. If you’re not having fun with the process, it makes it very difficult to wish to continue. Remember that humour, laughter and joy are some if the highest divine qualities that you have, not to mention the healing they can bring about.  If you’re not having fun, it’s time to re-evaluate why you are on this path.

The following is a list of the most important qualities of spiritual and self Mastery. This list is by no means complete, but it will give you a good idea of what to look for. As a someone who already is a Reiki Master, or one who is considering this path, these are qualities that you must become mindful of at all times.

Please be aware that being a Master does not mean that you are always perfect 100% of the time. It simply means that you are consciously aware of them and are consistently working towards mastering these attitudes and qualities.
