Question 3: What ailments does Reiki heal?

Answer:

In one way this is a very simple answer, in another, it is more complex. As mentioned in the answer to how does Reiki work, the kinds of things that Reiki can heal is only limited to your own imagination. This is the simple part of the equation.

On the more complex side, whether or not someone actually heals depends on one main thing: the willingness of the recipient to actually heal. I learned early on in my way to becoming a Reiki Master, that people can have huge pay-offs for staying sick. Until someone decides that those pay-offs do not serve them anymore and they make a choice that they truly wish to heal, they won't. Somewhere along the line, that conscious choice must be made.

How is it that one person can succumb to sometimes minor illness or injury, but others can experience healing miracles? It is because they decided how and if they will heal. I've heard hundreds of stories where people have recovered from an life threatening illness or injury where they were told they would not survive, yet they make a 100% recovery. In every one of those stories that I have heard, they all said the exact same thing: that they would not accept what they were told by the medical profession and just DECIDED that they were going heal fully, no matter how long or how difficult it would be. The developed a "whatever it takes" kind of attitude and would not accept anything but healing. This is how healing miracles happen.

Now, back to what I was saying about pay-offs. Believe it or not, someone who stays ill, usually has some sort of unconscious (sometimes even conscious) reason for staying ill. It could be that they get attention and love from friends and family when they are ill, that they don't receive when they are healthy. It could also be that they are afraid of what life would be like if they didn't have their illness. The reason for someone to stay sick are as infinite as there are illnesses.

The bottom line is that one must get to the root cause of the illness before it can be healed, or they must decide that their pay-off (even if they don't consciously know what it is) is just not worth it. Then it just becomes a matter of how long it will take to heal and what form it will take.

One of my teachers told me a story of a client that she had at one point. This particular client had an illness that caused her to become wheelchair bound. She was married to a man who treated her very badly and often ignored her. Her children and other members of her family treated her in much the same way. She was ignored, mistreated, and unloved. After she became wheelchair bound, her husband, friends and family suddenly came to her rescue by taking care of her, showing concern and helping her in every way they could. For the first time, possibly ever, she felt loved and accepted. They did for her, what she could not do for herself.

Over time, she decided that she no longer wished to have this illness and wanted to walk again. Despite what the doctors told her, she fully recovered and was able to walk again. The problem was, once she was healthy again, her family went back to treating her the way they did before her illness. Before long, she was sick again with the same illness and back in her chair. And of course, her family followed suit in the same way they did the first time.

This is just one example of how powerful those pay-offs can really be. This woman didn't realize that she healed the part of herself that believed she deserved to stay with people who abused and mistreated her. If she had healed that issue, along with the physical illness, she could have had the strength to leave her husband and loosen the ties to her abusive family.

Most of us don't have issues that cause that much trauma in the physical body. Most of us simply stay stuck in our negative patterns and they manifest as small things like an unstable financial situation, minor illnesses that become chronic, or any kind of negative pattern that continually repeats itself. It is up to you to take close look at the things in your life that you wish to change, and find out what is really at the cause of it by asking yourself questions. Why do I always find myself with the same type of job that creates the same type of financial lack in my life? Why do I constantly find myself attracted to the same type of partner who I know is not good for me?

Once you discover the pattern, you can then choose to heal and release that pattern. The process is not always easy, but it is possible. It all depends on your willingness and desire to change and grow.
